When I first consulted with with The Human Form, my neck pain and low back pain were chronic, getting worse, and limiting my ability to work and play. Additionally, my concern was these issues would shorten or even ruin my career as a surgeon.
After working with their corrective exercise program, at this point, for the first time in over a decade I have NO neck or back pain. I feel no limitations in my physical activities, and I don’t have a fear that my career will be ruined. The most impressive part is the individual nature of their program design. Instead of the “cookie-cutter” approach to wellness, the appropriate information was gathered to understand the nature of my problem, the realities of my life, and only then did they developed the individual plan that would work for me.
From my initial assessments to the first run through of my new exercise program and individualized nutrition plan, I knew I had found exactly what I had been looking for. As a fitness instructor, I consider myself an athlete. Unfortunately, I was (and continue to be) very stubborn about what it means to train (and eat) like a “good” athlete. With other programs, when I didn’t get the results I wanted, I’d assume that the problem was me…that I wasn’t working hard enough. It never occurred to me that part of the problem was that the programs I’d been given hadn’t been designed specifically ’s needs.
Part of my training with Stephen continues to be undoing all of the bad habits, muscular imbalances, and mindset that I’ve developed from the one- size- fits- all programs and exercises that I’ve done throughout the years. I’m also learning how to not work out when I’m tired or sick and focus on quality exercises designed for my body rather than multiple sets of generic exercises. Now, instead of spending hours every day at the gym, I can get a good quality workout done in an hour and get on with my life. And when I leave the gym, I feel energized. In the old days, I’d leave the gym exhausted and dreading the next day’s workout. (Don’t get me wrong. Stephen’s programs are hard work!).

Since that first program, Stephen has developed numerous weight training programs for me. Each program lasts for about six weeks after which time Stephen develops a new program for me. I then schedule a training session with Stephen. During these periodic sessions, Stephen goes over each exercise with me to ensure that I understand how to execute each movement with proper form and that I am comfortable with the overall program. The programs Stephen devises are innovative, very challenging, and definitely produce results. I am constantly impressed with Stephen’s ability to identify exercises that are new to me.
Although I do not retain Stephen as a personal trainer for my day-to-day workouts, he has many, regular clients at the fitness facility where I am a member. These people smile, laugh, and genuinely seem to be enjoying their sessions. This is because not only is Stephen a very professional, well-educated, and obviously extremely knowledgeable trainer, but he also is a very warm and caring person who takes a real interest in his clients’ well-being. I have been a client of Stephens for years and I’m constantly amazed how he evolves my workouts and helps me achieve my goals. I have a minimum of time to give and a short attention span but Stephen manages to keep me on track, engaged and still achieving more. I first knew I needed to workout at The Human Form when my mom got thinner and stronger than me after only two months there! LOL. Now I’ve been a client for five years and it’s awesome. I have one private session a week at the studio and they give me two workouts to do on my own at my gym. This makes it more affordable for me, but I get all of the guidance and support that I need to succeed.
Michelle’s Pre-Natal Fitness Program is terrific for all levels of fitness. As a marathon runner, I thought I was in pretty good shape before I became pregnant; however, she designed a workout routine specifically for me and one that would keep both me and my baby safe and healthy. I’ve learned so much and have been really happy with the results.

Before I started working with Stephen, I had significant limitations in my golf swing. I had always been a big hitter (averaging around 245 yards a drive). Stephen watched me take a few cuts with my driver and estimated that I was only reaching about 75% of my drive potential. I had tightness throughout my body, causing me to “muscle” the club, rather than swinging freely through the ball.
After just a few weeks of working with Stephen, I noticed that my shoulder and hip were starting to loosen up. Surprisingly, some of the old aches and pains caused by my years playing football started to go away as well.
The biggest improvement I’ve noticed occurs after playing 18 holes of golf. I have more energy and am not tired at the end of a round. There have been a few times when I play more than one round of golf in a day and I’m able to finish as strong as I start. In fact, I feel as if I could play more golf if I wanted. Also, my back isn’t sore the next day. I’ve been able to hit the ball further, with less effort. My drives are now averaging around 275 yards (I even hit a 320!) The people I golf with have noticed.
Getting in better physical shape has allowed me to concentrate more on the mechanics of the game—making me a better golfer.
Stephen Ladd has been instrumental in my accomplishing a full recovery from back surgery. His knowledge of post-rehabilitation fundamental gave me complete confidence in his abilities. He developed a program that not only allowed me to regain full use of my back and leg, but has he lped me strengthen my core muscles to further protect my back from re-injury. In addition to structuring my workouts, he also educates me on how to remain healthy and active long into my retirement years. I’m even back on the golf course!
After working with Stephen’s golf fitness program, especially the Resistance Stretching and the strength and power phases, I’ve gotten a significant improvement in my distance with all my clubs, while swinging with more ease and fluidity. My instructor is very pleased with my ability to keep my spine angle constant throughout my swing, which will certainly improve my consistancy and scoring.
Since I started training at The Human Form, my golf game has improved by leaps and bounds. I have more flexibility, balance and strength. Both my distance and accuracy has been off the charts. Also, with Michelle’s help I have been able to lose over 50 pounds, and feel like I can play 36 holes and keep up with guys half my age.
I initially came into The Human From as a post-rehab client to get rid of my chronic low back pain, and to be able to play golf without hurting for
three days afterwards. I was able to achieve all of that and a great deal more. I am now stronger than I have ever been in my life, and am no longer limited by my back. Stephen in always ultra-positive and that truly makes the workouts the highlight of my week.
Stephen introduced me to a whole new world of fitness. As a cardio queen, my main focus was primarily on aerobic activity, believing that this would keep me thin and lean. How wrong I was. When Stephen exposed me to focusing more on weight training, core stability exercises and nutrition, I saw and felt a dramatic change both externally (with my body) and mentally. In addition, his workouts included many specific functional exercises, providing me with an increased body awareness

Stephen has been my trainer for over 4 years. He has given me the self-confidence that I needed to work out in a gym and not feel intimated. I have been working out for nearly 20 years and always felt that I should have more results for my hard work. I also began suffering from intermittent back pain. After hearing and seeing some impressive techniques and exercises by Paul Chek, I decided to investigate possible CHEK practitioners in my area. Stephen had CHEK training and I saw immediate results from the program he put together, which included several different techniques (not just Chek). He really focused on helping me build a stronger structure, not just building muscle. Happily I’ve been able to do both. I’ve had a million questions for him each time I see him and he either has the answers or investigates them for me. I’ve had him design and demonstrate a number of different programs for me. I take what I learn to my own gym and use them. Now I use Stephen as my fitness “consultant” three or four times a year to get “refreshers” on technique and to get new ideas for what to change or add to my fitness program. Finally after 20 years I found in Steph en the right combination of creativity and science to make my training productive and reach my goals.
