Cut to the Good News

Well, friends… we did the thing.

Day Two in the books, and at the risk of jinxing anything, it’s gone shockingly smooth. The surgery itself barely lasted two hours. I’ve had arguments with my internet provider that went longer than that.

By 11:30 AM we were back home, just in time for High Noon Tea Service (with the bonus of sedation medications). Michelle is a certified lightweight, but once she drifted back into relative reality, she was pleasantly surprised to have only minimal pain… and that’s pretty much how it’s stayed for the first forty-eight hours.

She’s been sleeping well, even while parked at a forty-five-degree angle in a Lazy Boy recliner (rented, not purchased, as that would be weird and way off brand). She’s only taking over-the-counter pain meds and hasn’t felt the need for the prescription stuff. Yesterday she even took a modest stroll outside in the balmy almost-seventy-degree November weather.

We’ve had great help. Our dear friend Jessica flew in from Costa Rica to help me help her (and mostly to supervise me as I attempt basic adulting under pressure). She’s here through the week, and then Michelle’s mom Alison will tag in for round two. So yes, she’s surrounded by competent hands and plenty of love… with me occasionally pretending to be useful.

Overall, she’s doing beautifully. Tired, yes, but steady. The vibe around here is calm, grateful, and just slightly loopy from the combination of meds, humor, and adjusting to a new (temporary) routine.

Next up, we wait on the lymph node pathology. All signs are good so far. A few follow-up appointments with the surgeons are on the calendar, and then we’ll finalize the plan for the ongoing maintenance phase.

So, for now, we exhale. Healing mode is officially engaged.

And to everyone who’s been checking in… thank you. Your love, meals, and messages have carried us further than you probably realize.
