Dear Cancer: She’s Not Impressed

About eight weeks ago, everything in our world suddenly shifted. Michelle was diagnosed with breast cancer.

It came out of nowhere. One day it’s business as usual, and then you have five doctors’ appointments in four days. The bubble that we all live in, and the illusion of control that comforts us therein, bursts right in your face.

Fortunately, her medical team is optimistic. The cancer was caught early, and she’s already through two rounds of chemo (out of six total, with treatments every three weeks). So yeah, we’re officially one-third of the way through this part of the fight.

How’s she doing? Honestly, she’s crushing it. That’s not to say it’s been easy. There’s a rotating cast of symptoms, including taste bud betrayal, steroid-induced middle-of-the-night hunger, some joint pain, and random bouts of fatigue. But through all of that, she’s still Michelle. Strong. Steady. Even smiling most of the time, because that’s just who she is.

And now we have a plan. And Michelle with a plan in hand, watch out! I keep thinking… cancer seriously picked the wrong person.

Thank you for the messages, the food, the prayers, the check-ins — all of it. It matters more than you probably realize.

We’re walking this path together, one step, one weird side effect, and one very strong woman at a time.

And to cancer…
She’s not impressed.

With love,
Stephen (& Michelle)

Tumor Humor:

We asked for a reset, not a biopsy. Universe clearly doesn’t understand nuance.
